Former UFC fighter Cindy Dandois says her ex-boyfriend assaulted her last week.
The 35-year-old told Het Laatste Nieuws that the attack took place Friday outside her home in Antwerp, Belgium. She said her ex-boyfriend, who's also an MMA fighter, was upset about their breakup.
"He did not accept that I want to move on and just stay friends,” Dandois said, according to MMA Fighting. “It’s jealousy. He threatened me all the time, but I never took his threats seriously - until he comes to my door.”
Dandois posted photos of her injured face on social media after the alleged incident. Witnesses reportedly said the attacker used a key to cut Dandois' face during the assault. Dandois said she needed seven stitches and also suffered a broken nose.
Dandois didn't say if she plans to press charges.
"We are all human beings, we all make mistakes,” Dandois said. “I hope he realizes it and pulls himself together. He does not have to be sent to prison. Leave me alone, that’s all."
Dandois was forced out of a scheduled fight last weekend following the alleged attack. She's now slated to compete on Dec. 15 in Athens, Greece, and hopes she'll be fully recovered.
A veteran of the UFC, Bellator, Invicta FC, and Rizin FF, Dandois is riding a three-fight winning streak. She won her last bout earlier this month by submission.
