Masvidal more interested in Nick Diaz, McGregor than title fight

Jorge Masvidal has his sights set on matchups that'll earn him big money - not necessarily the UFC welterweight title.

Masvidal said he'd rather fight Nick Diaz or Conor McGregor - whose return to the Octagon was announced for January on Thursday - than the winner of Kamaru Usman versus Colby Covington, which is scheduled for UFC 245 in December.

"Obviously, those fights (with Diaz or McGregor) come first because of the paycheck and everything it brings while these guys are settling the dust between the hugging championships," Masvidal told Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.

Talks regarding a potential bout between Masvidal and Diaz began after "Gamebred" defeated Diaz's younger brother, Nate, for the BMF title earlier this month at UFC 244.

Nick Diaz hasn't competed in the Octagon since a January 2015 fight with Anderson Silva, but Masvidal is confident he'd be in full form.

"If (Diaz has) ever been motivated for a fight, I think it’s going to be this one," Masvidal said. "I think whatever he’s been doing in the past, he’ll cut it and he'll get into his ways of fighting. Knowing the Diaz brothers and how much they got love and respect for each other, I know that guy’s going to come with everything he has."

Masvidal has won three in a row, which included stunning knockouts of Ben Askren and Darren Till.
