What's next for UFC 245 winners?

The UFC's final pay-per-view card of the decade has come and gone.

UFC 245 on Saturday featured a whopping three title fights, which resulted in a late knockout, one new champ, and another chapter in the reign of the best women's fighter of all time.

Kamaru Usman finished Colby Covington in the fifth round of the main event in his first welterweight title defense. New featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski dethroned Max Holloway by decision in the co-headliner. And women's bantamweight titleholder Amanda Nunes dominated Germaine de Randamie with takedowns en route to a decison victory.

Here's what should come next for the notable winners at UFC 245.

Kamaru Usman def. Colby Covington

Next fight: Jorge Masvidal

Usually, top contenders want nothing more than to fight the champion in their division. But that's not necessarily the case with Masvidal, as the UFC may need to convince him to take the Usman fight, even though it makes sense.

"Gamebred," one of the breakout stars of 2019, is going after big-money fights with Conor McGregor and Nick Diaz after beating Nate Diaz for the BMF title last month. I don't blame him, as there's a lot of money to be made in those bouts.

But McGregor seems keen on fighting for the lightweight belt if he beats Donald Cerrone on Jan. 18, and Diaz hasn't fought in nearly five years. I don't see either of those matchups happening, so agreeing to a title fight is probably in Masvidal's best interest. That's easily his next best option.

Usman's stock rose a lot with his win over Covington, so the Masvidal pairing might do quite well for the promotion and the two athletes involved. And it could be a hell of a fight, too.

Alexander Volkanovski def. Max Holloway

Next fight: Chan Sung Jung if he beats Frankie Edgar

There's no clear-cut first challenger for Volkanovski. Looking down the rankings, it feels like everyone in the top five still needs one more big win to catapult themselves into a title shot.

UFC president Dana White said after the Volkanovski versus Holloway fight that a rematch makes sense, and Volkanovski said he's open to that. I'm not a big fan of immediate rematches, and although Holloway's championship reign was great, I don't think it necessitates one.

But there's one man who's seemingly closer to a title shot than anyone else.

If Chan Sung Jung defeats Frankie Edgar in the UFC Busan main event on Dec. 21, he should be Volkanovski's first challenger. "The Korean Zombie" is coming off a big win over Renato Moicano in June, and a victory against the former lightweight champ would add a really solid name to his resume.

If Edgar upsets Jung, then I'd probably look at booking Zabit Magomedsharipov versus Yair Rodriguez in a title eliminator, with the winner facing off against Volkanovski.

Amanda Nunes def. Germaine de Randamie

Next fight: Irene Aldana or Aspen Ladd

Nunes, who also holds the women's featherweight title, said before UFC 245 that she plans to defend her other belt in the Brazilian's first fight of 2020. But there's really no one at 145 pounds - the UFC's shallowest division - for her to face right now.

So, assuming Nunes' next fight is instead at 135 pounds, it should come against either Irene Aldana or Aspen Ladd.

Ideally, those two would fight for a shot at Nunes. But if the UFC's brass wants to give Aldana - who scored a huge knockout win over No. 2-ranked Ketlen Vieira on Saturday - the title shot right away, I'm fine with that, too. If that happens, the promotion could book Ladd against Julianna Pena in a title eliminator.

I'm a little more hesitant about throwing Ladd in there against Nunes before one more win because she's still so young. Aldana, meanwhile, just picked up a win that'll be near the top of her highlight reel the rest of her career, so putting the 31-year-old further ahead in line and capitalizing on that fits.

Marlon Moraes def. Jose Aldo

Next fight: Cory Sandhagen

Moraes barely got past ex-featherweight champ Jose Aldo. But he won, and that's what matters. Many did score it for Aldo, but it was far from a robbery.

However, Moraes still needs one more win before returning to the title picture. He entered Saturday's fight coming off a loss to bantamweight champ Henry Cejudo, so he'll likely have to work more before getting another title shot.

Rising star Cory Sandhagen is in a similar situation, as he's still a win away from fighting for the belt - or possibly more, given the state of the division.

So why not pair Moraes and Sandhagen against each other? Sandhagen still needs an opponent for UFC Raleigh on Jan. 25 with Edgar stepping up to fight Jung. The tilt should be booked if Moraes is willing to fight again next month.

Petr Yan def. Urijah Faber

Next fight: Henry Cejudo or Aljamain Sterling

Petr Yan deserves a title shot after marquee wins over Faber, Jimmie Rivera, and John Dodson.

But Cejudo is still recovering from shoulder surgery, and we don't know exactly when he'll be back. Then there's Aljamain Sterling, who's earned a title shot too, but he's healing from wrist surgery and also without a clear timetable to return.

So, because both the champ and No. 2 contender are currently sidelined, the title picture is a bit foggy, and we need to look at a couple of different scenarios.

Yan should fight Cejudo if he's ready to come back before Sterling. But if Sterling heals before Cejudo, then the UFC should book a title eliminator between him and Yan.

If the UFC wants to go a different route, I wouldn't object to seeing Yan clash with Moraes.
