Whitmire removed from UFC 248 due to medical issues
Emily Whitmire was forced to withdraw from her strawweight bout against Polyana Viana at UFC 248 on Saturday due to medical issues, the promotion announced Saturday.
Whitmire missed weight Friday morning, coming in at 117.5 pounds - 1.5 pounds over the division's limit.
Viana wrote on Twitter she'd heard Whitmire had been hospitalized.
“ I just heard tha Emily is out of the fight with me today. I also heard she had to be taken to the ER. I hope she is alright and I wish from the bottom of my heart that she recovers from whatever it is that she is suffering from.

As a result of the cancellation, UFC 248 will proceed with 11 fights. The event will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and features a middleweight title fight between champion Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. In the co-headliner, strawweight champ Zhang Weili defends her belt against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
