Volkanovski: I'd be 'one of the greatest of all time' with 2nd win vs. Holloway
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski thinks a second win over ex-champ Max Holloway would put him on the list of all-time greats.
"For me, (a rematch with Holloway is) the biggest fight in my career right now to solidify myself as the best featherweight of all time and one of the greatest of all time," Volkanovski told TMZ Sports. "I go and take out Max twice in (his) prime, people are gonna give me that respect I deserve."
Talks of a rematch immediately began after Volkanovski - who's No. 8 on the UFC's pound-for-pound rankings - defeated Holloway to capture the belt last December. "Blessed" had been the champion for two-and-a-half years.
Volkanovski-Holloway 2 has been linked to UFC 251 on June 6 in Perth, Australia. But it's not finalized, the champ said. He was only recently medically cleared after suffering a broken hand in the first Holloway bout.
"I want that fight, because there's no clear No. 1 contenders," Volkanovski said. "I don't want to wait around until there's a clear No. 1. I think Max does deserve it. He was a great champion. The UFC wants it. Australian fans would want it. And I think everyone else would want that. I reckon we're gonna make it happen."
