UFC president Dana White offered a few more details about Fight Island on Friday, including where on the island the planned events will take place.
The UFC intends to use a private island to hold fights between international athletes unable to travel to the United States amid the coronavirus pandemic. White said he expects the island will be operational by June.
"We really are putting an Octagon on the beach," White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto on Instagram Live, according to CBS Sports' Brian Campbell. "There's going to be training facilities there for people. There are hotels. And the whole island is going to be built, all the infrastructure is going to be built for the UFC to come do fights there."
The island's location has yet to be revealed.
The promotion is continuing operations despite the COVID-19 outbreak. Its next scheduled event, UFC 249, will take place May 9 in Jacksonville. The UFC announced Friday the city will host two other cards on May 13 and 16. White said a fourth card will occur May 23 in a location yet to be confirmed.
Last week, the UFC filed for 22 trademarks for the terms "UFC Fight Island" and "Fight Island." The application included trademarks that could be used for branded goods.
