Report: Nunes-Spencer title fight rescheduled for June 6
Amanda Nunes will now defend her UFC women's featherweight title against Felicia Spencer on June 6, sources told ESPN's Ariel Helwani on Tuesday.
The two-division champion was originally slated to fight Spencer at UFC 250 on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but the coronavirus pandemic uprooted the event. Nunes-Spencer was then among several bouts targeted for the rescheduled UFC 249 card on the same date, but the Brazilian withdrew because of unsuitable training conditions amid the COVID-19 crisis and a minor injury.
Nunes, who is also the UFC women's bantamweight champion, captured the 145-pound belt with a first-round knockout of Cris Cyborg in December 2018. She has yet to defend that title. Since then, "The Lioness" has beaten Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie at 135 pounds.
Spencer is coming off a first-round TKO of Zarah Fairn at UFC Norfolk in February. The 29-year-old owns a 2-1 record in the promotion.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the June 6 event or its location. Helwani reported Monday that the promotion hopes to hold it at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but plans have not yet been finalized.
It's unclear whether Nunes-Spencer will serve as the June 6 main event, Helwani added. A bantamweight bout between former champ Cody Garbrandt and Raphael Assuncao is also reportedly set for the card.
