Manager: McGregor would consider July fight if Florida events occur safely
Conor McGregor would consider fighting in July if everyone involved with the upcoming UFC events in Jacksonville is healthy and safe afterward, his manager, Audie Attar, told ESPN's Ariel Helwani.
"Conor is very curious to see whether the health and safety of the athletes and staff are ensured," Attar said. "He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of properly."
The UFC is set to resume operations amid the coronavirus pandemic Saturday with UFC 249, which will be headlined by an interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. The promotion will also host shows May 13 and 16.
McGregor has been vocal about safety precautions amid the pandemic since it hit his native Ireland in March. The former two-division champion has donated more than a million euros worth of medical gear to local hospitals.
Attar said "The Notorious" would prefer to compete with fans in attendance but noted that he isn't ruling out a fight behind closed doors. Attar added that McGregor will fight no sooner than July and does not necessarily have a specific opponent in mind.
McGregor, who was expected to return in July before the COVID-19 crisis, is coming off of a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in January.
