De La Hoya corrects McGregor: 'I never challenged you'

One day after Conor McGregor took to Twitter to accept Oscar De La Hoya's boxing "challenge," the latter responded with a correction.

"For the record: McGregor, I never challenged you," De La Hoya said in a tweet on Friday. "I was just asked a question and I simply spoke the truth."

McGregor was responding to comments "The Golden Boy" made during a radio appearance earlier in the week, with the 47-year-old saying he could knock the Irishman out in a boxing match within two rounds.

McGregor, a former lightweight and featherweight UFC champion, famously crossed over to boxing in a heavily publicized bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. He acquitted himself better than some expected, but still lost by 10th-round TKO.

De La Hoya (39-6-0) last fought in December 2008, losing to Manny Pacquiao by eighth-round TKO.
