Report: Benavidez-Figueiredo vacant flyweight title rematch set for July
Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo will meet again in July for the UFC's vacant flyweight title, according to MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn.
A date for the rematch has not yet been finalized, but it's expected to be July 18, a source told Bohn.
Figueiredo knocked out Benavidez in the second round of the UFC Norfolk main event in February. The fight was supposed to be for the vacant title after Henry Cejudo relinquished it in December, but Figueiredo missed weight ahead of the contest. Benavidez was still eligible to capture the belt with a victory.
The two fighters accidentally clashed heads moments before Figueiredo's finishing sequence. Benavidez has since said he believes the headbutt dazed him and ultimately led to the end of the bout.
Prior to the loss, Benavidez was riding a three-fight winning streak and won nine of his past 10 outings. The 35-year-old is widely considered one of the best fighters to never win a UFC belt.
Figueiredo has won three in a row and is 7-1 in the promotion. The Brazilian's only professional defeat was to top contender Jussier Formiga in March 2019.
A location for the UFC's event on July 18 has not yet been determined.
