Report: UFC working on Yan-Aldo for vacant bantamweight title
The UFC is working on booking a fight between Petr Yan and Jose Aldo for the vacant bantamweight title, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
Former bantamweight titleholder Henry Cejudo announced his retirement after defending the belt against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 on May 9.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN's "SportsCenter" that the promotion is talking about a Yan-Aldo fight and that a date and location has yet to be determined, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi.
Aldo is a former UFC featherweight champion but has lost his last two fights. He dropped a unanimous decision to Alexander Volkanovski last May and a controversial split decision to current No. 1-ranked bantamweight Marlon Moraes in December.
Many, including Cejudo, believed Aldo won the decision against Moraes in his first fight at 135 pounds. Cejudo had petitioned for a title defense against Aldo before meeting Cruz at UFC 249.
Yan is currently ranked third in the division. The 14-1 fighter owns a nine-fight winning streak, most recently dropping Urijah Faber by TKO in December.
