Nunes dominates Spencer to retain featherweight title at UFC 250
Amanda Nunes defeated Felicia Spencer via unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-45) to retain the women's featherweight title in the UFC 250 main event Saturday in Las Vegas.
Nunes defended her 145-pound belt for the first time against Spencer. With the win, she becomes the first fighter in UFC history to defend two titles while holding them simultaneously.
"The Lioness" dominated Spencer from start to finish, and it quickly became clear the Canadian challenger could do nothing more than simply survive.
Nunes, who's also the women's bantamweight champion, displayed good timing and picked her opponent apart. As the fight went on, her strikes became increasingly damaging, and Nunes left Spencer a bloody mess by the end.
Many people thought Spencer's only chance to upset Nunes would be on the ground. However, the champ dominated in the grappling department, as well, taking down her opponent multiple times and landing brutal ground-and-pound. Nunes attempted a rear-naked choke at the end of the fourth round and Spencer appeared to be saved by the bell.
Nunes extended her winning streak to 11 with the victory. The Brazilian captured the 135-pound belt in 2016 and then the featherweight title in late 2018. Since then, she's planned to move between divisions and defend both championships. But as Nunes continues to pick up wins, potential opponents are becoming few and far between.
Spencer dropped to 2-2 in the promotion with the loss.
