McGregor reveals in tweet he's 'decided to retire from fighting'

Conor McGregor took to Twitter following UFC 250 to apparently announce his retirement from MMA.

"Hey guys I've decided to retire from fighting," McGregor wrote. "Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it's been!"

The former UFC two-division champion has announced a surprising end to his career multiple times in the past. The first was in April 2016, a month removed from his upset loss against Nate Diaz at UFC 196. McGregor was the featherweight champion at the time.

The second time was in March 2019, five months after his lightweight title loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. The Irishman was also surrounded by controversy at the time, as he was arrested earlier that month for allegedly smashing a person's phone outside a Miami hotel. Hours after his supposed retirement, The New York Times reported that McGregor was under investigation for a second sexual assault allegation.

Both of McGregor's "retirements" were short-lived, as he rematched Diaz later in 2016. And less than a year after his second announcement, the UFC superstar returned to the Octagon against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. He beat "Cowboy" via 40-second TKO in January.
