Calvillo beats Eye via unanimous decision in UFC main event
Cynthia Calvillo defeated Jessica Eye via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) in the UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It was a big win for Calvillo, who took out the No. 1 contender and a former title challenger while making her women's flyweight debut. Calvillo previously competed at strawweight, but she moved up after struggling to make weight.
The fight primarily took place in the striking department, and Calvillo was the more active fighter. She possessed a significant speed advantage over Eye, allowing the 32-year-old to find her range more often.
She also put her grappling skills to use, scoring takedowns against Eye in multiple rounds. She threatened to end the fight via submission, but Eye's defense held up.
With the victory, Calvillo extends her unbeaten streak to four. She hasn't lost since a decision against former 115-pound champion Carla Esparza in December 2017.
Eye, meanwhile, drops to 1-2 over her past three bouts.
