Conor McGregor's head coach, John Kavanagh, has no reason to believe the former UFC two-division champion isn't actually retired.

"Yes, he is (retired), as far as I can tell," Kavanagh said during a recent Instagram Live session, according to MMA World. "That's what he said, isn't it?"

McGregor announced suddenly in early June that he's retiring from mixed martial arts, explaining that a lack of excitement about the sport led to his decision. However, this was the Irishman's third retirement announcement in the past four years, so a lot of people aren't convinced McGregor's walked away for good.

But if "The Notorious" does return, it won't be because of his longtime trainer.

"I can't convince Conor to do shit," Kavanagh said. "Conor will tell Conor what he's gonna do. And who knows? Who knows what's gonna happen in the future? But as for now, he's retired."

McGregor is coming off a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone in the UFC 246 main event in January.
