UFC: Mike Perry to immediately seek substance, behavioral counseling

The UFC announced Thursday that welterweight Mike Perry will seek counseling after video emerged of him punching a man and berating others at a Texas restaurant.

"UFC is aware and troubled by the video that was released last night concerning Mike Perry," the promotion said in a statement obtained by ESPN's Brett Okamoto. "The conduct displayed by Perry is not reflective of that of our organization. Perry apologized for his behavior and acknowledged he was disappointed with himself that his actions may have reflected poorly on UFC.

"He further acknowledged that he believes he has some issues related to alcohol abuse and has informed UFC that he has committed to immediately seek professional treatment, including substance and behavioral counseling."

As a result, the UFC will not be offering Perry any bouts for now, and both sides will evaluate the next steps for the fighter once he completes the treatment program.

Perry was charged with Class A assault after the incident Tuesday night. It isn't the first time he's gotten into a fight at an establishment. In March, he shared a video of him knocking out a man outside of an Orlando club.

Perry last fought June 27 when he defeated Mickey Gall by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 4. He did so with only his girlfriend in his corner as he had cut ties with his training team prior to the bout.
