Masvidal: UFC 251 weight cut was 'rough'
Jorge Masvidal didn't have an easy time making weight for his UFC 251 title fight against Kamaru Usman.
The welterweight contender stepped up on less than a week's notice for the bout. That included flying to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from Florida. He also had to quarantine in his hotel room before his COVID-19 test results came back.
However, Masvidal and Usman were both successful on the scale Friday morning, coming in at 170 pounds.
"It was rough," Masvidal said Friday, according to MMA Junkie. "Twenty pounds in six days. That's all I'm gonna say. It was rough. But I did it. I get shit done."
Despite knowing he would have to cut down to the welterweight limit in a matter of days, "Gamebred" never second guessed his decision to fill in for Gilbert Burns, who was originally scheduled to face Usman before testing positive for the coronavirus last week.
"Nah, because the opponent in front of me is very tamable, so I never thought like that," Masvidal said. "I'm hurting, though, initially during the weight cut, but now it's all behind me. I made the weight, I already got liquids in me, food in me. So pretty soon it'll be just party time."
