Kattar puts on clinic vs. Ige in UFC headliner
Calvin Kattar defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) in the featherweight main event at UFC Fight Night on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The fight was close in the early rounds, with Kattar picking Ige apart from the outside and Ige landing shots to his opponent's head and body in close quarters.
However, Kattar pulled away late to secure the clear-cut victory. "The Boston Finisher" continued to attack Ige with a variety of punches as the fight progressed. His precision and stamina allowed him to outstrike Ige, and Kattar also avoided a lot of Ige's shots on the feet. Ige tired in the later rounds, and his meaningful offense diminished.
Ige's toughness was on full display, as he ate all of Kattar's strikes and kept coming forward. But that ultimately wasn't enough to win the fight. Kattar was the more active fighter, dishing out punishment through the end of the five-round headliner.
With the win, Kattar has won two straight bouts. He entered Wednesday's main event coming off a second-round knockout of veteran Jeremy Stephens.
Ige saw his six-fight winning streak come to an end, falling short for the first time since January 2018.
