Figueiredo eyes Cejudo at 135 pounds, wants to win 2nd belt
Deiveson Figueiredo is already thinking about bigger and better things after capturing the vacant UFC flyweight title.
Figueiredo destroyed Joseph Benavidez during their rematch in the UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He knocked Benavidez down three times before putting him to sleep with a rear-naked choke late in the first round.
Afterward, the Brazilian said he would like to face off with former flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo, who retired from mixed martial arts in May, and wants to eventually become a two-division titleholder.
"I'd like to be the guy to bring back Henry Cejudo from retirement," Figueiredo said at the postfight press conference, according to MMA Fighting. "I think he was looking for a worthy opponent, and I think I'm that guy. I would love to move up and be able to fight him at 135."
While the 32-year-old has aspirations of winning the bantamweight title currently held by Petr Yan, he sees himself defending the 125-pound belt, too.
"I will accept a superfight if they want to give me one, and I'll move up to 135," Figueiredo said. "I want to be a two-division champion, but I'm gonna defend this belt, as well."
Figueiredo is the third flyweight champion in UFC history after Demetrious Johnson and Cejudo. He has now won four straight fights, including a second-round TKO over Benavidez in February.
