O'Malley 'humbled' after 1st career loss
Sean O'Malley has broken his silence following UFC 252.
The rising bantamweight star wrote Sunday in an Instagram post he was "humbled" after suffering his first career loss to Marlon Vera this past weekend in Las Vegas.
O'Malley appeared to hurt his leg early in the fight, which served as the co-main event of the pay-per-view card. "Sugar" had difficulty moving and was stumbling around the Octagon. He fell to the mat late in the first round, and Vera jumped on him and earned a TKO finish after landing a sequence of elbows.
No fractures were found in O'Malley's ankle or lower leg, a source told ESPN's Ariel Helwani. The fighter will reportedly undergo an MRI on those areas and his knee once the swelling has gone down in order to check for ligament and tendon tears.
O'Malley, arguably the biggest name to emerge from Dana White's Contender Series so far, is now 4-1 in the UFC. He won two fights earlier in 2020, including a huge knockout of veteran Eddie Wineland in June.
