A rematch between welterweight stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal is in the works, UFC president Dana White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.

The bout, which hasn't been agreed to, would likely happen in January, sources told ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

Diaz and Masvidal headlined UFC 244 in November 2019 when they fought for the symbolic BMF belt. Masvidal won the fight via TKO due to a doctor's stoppage between the third and fourth rounds. The result was received poorly by both the fighters and fans at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Masvidal has fought only once since the Diaz battle, losing a short-notice championship tilt to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 in July. Diaz has been inactive over the last 10 months.

White also revealed the promotion is targeting UFC 256 in December for the Usman-Gilbert Burns welterweight title fight.
