Oezdemir withdraws from Krylov fight due to knee injury
Plans for a fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Nikita Krylov lasted a week.
Seven days after the UFC announced the light heavyweight bout would co-headline the Oct. 17 card in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Oezdemir revealed he had to pull out due to a knee injury.
"I'm devastated," the former title challenger wrote Thursday in an Instagram post.
Oezdemir did not give a timetable for his return, nor did he state whether he'll have to undergo surgery.
It's unclear if the UFC plans to find a replacement to face Krylov.
Oezdemir had been looking to rebound from a brutal knockout loss to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 251 in July. "No Time" was riding a two-fight winning streak before that defeat, a stretch that included a decision over Aleksandar Rakic and a stoppage of Ilir Latifi.
Krylov has alternated wins and losses in his past five contests. "The Miner" most recently picked up a victory over Johnny Walker at UFC Brasilia in March.
A featherweight clash between Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung will headline UFC Fight Night at Flash Forum.
