UFC fighter Ben Sosoli was sentenced to 22 months in jail Monday for punching a man outside a bar, according to Georgie Moore of Australian Associated Press.

The heavyweight pleaded guilty to recklessly causing serious injury following the September 2019 incident in Melbourne.

Sosoli was working at Jacksons Lounge Bar as a bouncer when an intoxicated man entered the establishment twice after being denied entry.

The Australian native took the patron outside, punched him in the jaw, and broke it with a single strike, according to MMA Junkie. The victim had to undergo facial surgery.

Sosoli told police the man had been "threatening to f--- (him) up," but Judge Gavan Meredith said his actions were still not right.

"You are expected not to respond to provocation in the way you did," the judge said Monday, according to Moore.

The promotion has reportedly terminated Sosoli's contract, though his fighter profile on UFC.com remains active as of Monday afternoon.

The 30-year-old must serve 11 months of his sentence before he can apply for parole.

"Combat Wombat" is best known for his October 2019 bout against controversial former NFL player Greg Hardy, which had taken place a month after the bar incident. The fighter initially lost a unanimous decision, but the promotion quickly overturned the result to a no-contest due to Hardy's unapproved inhaler use between rounds.

Sosoli competed twice under the UFC banner from 2019-20 and compiled a 0-1 (1 NC) record. Most recently, Sosoli lost to Marcos Rogerio de Lima via first-round TKO in February.
