Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman suffered a broken leg while attempting a leg kick in the opening seconds of his bout against Uriah Hall.

The stoppage came at the 0:17 mark of the first round at UFC 261 on Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Hall officially won via TKO.

Weidman was hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to the broadcast. He's set to undergo surgery Sunday in Jacksonville.

Hall wished him well after the fight.

"Whatever rank I am in the future, if he gets well, I owe him this fight," Hall said in his postfight interview, according to The Athletic's Shaun Al-Shatti. "And I hope he can come back from it. You're still one of the best, Chris."

This result is similar to Weidman's rematch against UFC legend Anderson Silva in 2013. Silva broke his leg when Weidman checked a leg kick.

Weidman entered the contest coming off a win over Omari Akhmedov last August. Hall has now won four in a row.

The former middleweight champ defeated Hall via first-round TKO in a regional bout in 2010.
