Masvidal says Covington lacks heart: 'Every time he gets touched, he folds'

Jorge Masvidal doesn't think much of Colby Covington's ability to take damage, and he believes that's one of the reasons he'll get his hand raised at UFC 272.

"(Covington) might be a decent athlete, but he's never had the heart and spirit," Masvidal told ESPN's "Stephen A's World."

"Every time he gets touched, he folds. He can be the hammer, but he's never been able to be the nail."

Covington and Masvidal are scheduled to meet in a welterweight grudge match during Saturday's highly anticipated pay-per-view main event. The former title challengers were once training partners and good friends, but they're now enemies following a bitter falling out.

One of Covington's three pro losses came by way of knockout against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in 2019. Covington was also knocked down twice in a rematch with Usman last year, but he made it to the final horn.

Masvidal, who rose to stardom with a vicious five-second knockout of Ben Askren in 2019, is confident he'll add Covington to his highlight reel.

"(Covington) knows I'm a dog, and the second I have a f------ chance to f------ break his little, brittle face, I (will)," Masvidal said. "He knows from working out with me when I was at 155 (pounds) that I f------ hit like a truck, man. And now (that) I'm at 170, I'm going to f------ break his face."
