Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman revealed he fractured his left leg in his unanimous decision loss to Brad Tavares at UFC 292.

"So, I guess he broke my leg with one of those leg kicks," Weidman said this week on SiriusXM's "Won't Back Down" podcast. "I ended up switching to southpaw and figuring it out. But I'm pretty sure that's when my leg broke, fractured it."

He said it's a fracture to the upper tibia, right below his knee. "Recovery-wise, it's not bad at all. ... Four-week recovery, that's it," Weidman added.

The August bout marked his first match since suffering a horrific right leg break in April 2021 just 17 seconds into a fight with Uriah Hall.

UFC president Dana White commended Weidman on his journey back to the Octagon but suggested the veteran should call it a career.

"I love Chris Weidman - I love him," White told MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn and Danny Segura postfight at UFC 292. "I love his family. I think he should retire. ... The guy is just coming back from a gruesome injury and, listen man: Father Time is not our friend at all, but definitely if you're a professional athlete."

The 39-year-old (15-7) has suffered defeats in four of his past five fights, with his lone win coming against Omari Akhmedov in August 2020. Weidman has secured memorable finishes against fighters such as Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, and Kelvin Gastelum.

Despite suffering yet another injury to his legs, Weidman insists that his fighting career is not over.
