Thompson, Rakhmonov agree to UFC 296 bout
Welterweight contenders Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Shavkat Rakhmonov have agreed to face off at UFC 296 on Dec. 16.
Thompson posted on social media Friday that he'd accepted the fight offer from the UFC, and Rakhmonov quickly replied.
Thompson, who's ranked No. 7 at 170 pounds, snapped a two-fight losing streak by beating Kevin Holland via TKO last December. He was scheduled to fight Michel Pereira at UFC 291 in July, but the bout was scrapped after Pereira weighed in three pounds over the limit.
Meanwhile, Rakhmonov is ranked No. 6 after winning all five of his UFC fights to continue his undefeated overall streak. He last fought at UFC 285 in March, taking down Geoff Neal, before having his September bout against Kelvin Gastelum canceled.
