Aspinall rants about Miocic getting next title shot: 'Quite upset'

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is getting more and more frustrated about not being next in line for a shot at the undisputed title.

Aspinall held nothing back in a series of tweets Thursday as he condemned the promotion's intention to give former champ Stipe Miocic the next title shot against Jon Jones.

Jones withdrew from the UFC 295 main event against Miocic in November, and UFC CEO Dana White has remained adamant he'll rebook that matchup in 2024.

However, Aspinall has the strongest argument to challenge Jones next. The Englishman captured the interim title with a first-round knockout win over Sergei Pavlovich in a short-notice fight booked after Jones-Miocic was canceled.

Aspinall had already expressed frustration regarding the UFC's plans for the next heavyweight title fight but not in such an upfront manner. In the weeks following his win over Pavlovich, the 30-year-old called for the UFC to strip Jones of the title (due to the lack of a timeline for his return), elevate himself to undisputed champion, and let him defend the belt against Miocic.

But White told Aspinall last month to "just wait" and is dead set on rescheduling a "legacy" fight between Jones, arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time, and Miocic, the best heavyweight in UFC history. Miocic hasn't stepped into the Octagon since Francis Ngannou ended his second reign in March 2021.
