Watch: Volkanovski's 'old man' outfit steals the show at UFC 298 presser
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is leaning into the old man gimmick.
After starring in a viral and hilarious skit about being "too old" ahead of his UFC 298 title defense against Ilia Topuria, Volkanovski showed up to Thursday's prefight press conference in Anaheim dressed as an elderly man and cracked jokes about the bit throughout.
Here's Volkanovski arriving at Honda Center in style:
Volkanovski opened the presser by saying he thinks "this old man needs to teach this young fella a lesson" in light of Topuria's trash talk and extreme confidence leading up to Saturday's main event. Topuria quipped that Volkanovski came dressed for retirement.
Volkanovski struggled to get out of his chair when Topuria told him to "stand up and do something."
As a reporter asked Topuria a question, Volkanovski appeared to drift off.
But don't worry. UFC middleweight Paulo Costa was nice enough to wake him up.
Former featherweight champion Max Holloway, who fought Volkanovski three times, got a kick out of "The Great" falling asleep.
On a more serious note, Topuria made a bold prediction for the fight: He believes he'll knock Volkanovski out in the first round to become the new UFC featherweight champ.
Topuria might be 48 hours away from UFC CEO Dana White wrapping the belt around his waist, but the Spaniard couldn't resist snatching it from Volkanovski toward the end of the press conference.
Volkanovski hobbled to the center of the stage before getting serious and facing off with Topuria for the first time.
