Oezdemir-Ulberg booked for UFC Macau
Rising light heavyweight Carlos Ulberg will continue his hunt for a title shot when he meets Volkan Oezdemir in a battle of top-10 contenders at UFC Macau on Nov. 23.
The promotion announced the new matchup Wednesday.
Ulberg, ranked No. 10 in the division, is due for a step up in competition after scoring a 12-second knockout against Alonzo Menifield in May. The 33-year-old New Zealander has won six in a row.
Ulberg was scheduled to face former champion Jamahal Hill - and then Anthony Smith - at UFC 303 in June before withdrawing from the event due to a knee injury.
Oezdemir is coming off a devastating first-round knockout of Johnny Walker in June. The No. 6-ranked light heavyweight is riding a two-fight winning streak. Oezdemir, 35, has been in the UFC since 2017 and challenged for the title in 2018.
Several other fights were announced for UFC Macau, including a strawweight co-main event between Yan Xiaonan and Tabatha Ricci and a welterweight tilt between Kenan Song and Muslim Salikhov.
In the main event, former bantamweight champion Petr Yan will take on ex-flyweight king Deiveson Figueiredo in a pivotal 135-pound bout.
