Harrison went to hospital, was 'peeing blood' week before UFC 307

Kayla Harrison dealt with some rather serious health concerns ahead of UFC 307.

The women's bantamweight contender told MMA Fighting's Damon Martin she had an infection "that started spreading" and was on antibiotics the week before her unanimous decision victory over Ketlen Vieira this past Saturday in Salt Lake City.

"I had to go to the hospital the week before," Harrison said in a separate interview with TMZ Sports. "I was peeing blood."

Harrison said she wasn't at her best and was disappointed with her performance against Vieira. The former two-time PFL champion dominated Vieira on the ground but failed to secure a finish.

"There was a bunch of stuff going on," Harrison said, according to Martin. "But it's not an excuse. I have to be the best in the world on my worst day."

Harrison competed at lightweight and featherweight in the PFL but was forced to drop to bantamweight when she signed with the UFC earlier this year. Harrison admitted the weight cut has taken a toll on her body and said she needs to take a bit of extra time off between fights to recover.

"I'm just not built to weigh 135 pounds," Harrison said, per TMZ. "Any time I get under the 150s, it's not pleasant."

However, Harrison said she feels "fine" in the cage the day after weight cuts.

"If somebody is hurt and shouldn't compete, they should absolutely come to us and tell us," UFC CEO Dana White said Tuesday when asked about the complications from Harrison's weight cut, per MMA Junkie. "But the truth of the matter is it's like the NFL every Sunday, these athletes always have something going on."

The 34-year-old's next fight is expected to be against newly crowned women's bantamweight champ Julianna Pena, who eked out a split-decision win over Raquel Pennington in the UFC 307 co-main event.

In a perfect scenario, Harrison said she wants to beat Pena for the title and then lure Amanda Nunes out of retirement for one of the biggest fights in women's MMA history.

"I want both," Harrison said. "Can I not have both? I want to win the title, give Amanda time to get back in shape and train. She can be training for me that whole time. I'll go f--k up Julianna real quick. And then Amanda and I can fight."
