Jones 'happy' with No. 2 pound-for-pound ranking after UFC 309
Jon Jones didn't retake the top spot on the UFC's pound-for-pound rankings after his win over Stipe Miocic.
The UFC heavyweight champion moved ahead of light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira to claim the No. 2 position after beating Miocic with a devastating third-round TKO in his first title defense at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York. However, he didn't surpass lightweight titleholder Islam Makhachev for No. 1.
Jones posted Tuesday on X that he's fine with where he sits on the list.
UFC CEO Dana White expressed frustration with the voting panel Monday after it kept "Bones" out of the top spot. He's long argued Jones deserves to be ranked No. 1.
Jones' nonchalant reaction is different than what we're used to hearing from the future UFC Hall of Famer. In 2020, Jones took issue with then-lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov calling to become the pound-for-pound king after Nurmagomedov beat Justin Gaethje and subsequently retired.
"People want me to stay quiet and let (Nurmagomedov) have his moment while I just sit back and watch my hard work get moved down the rankings," Jones wrote on X back then. "It's not fair to my family or the team of people who have sacrificed to get me this far."
Jones, 37, returned from a 20-month layoff to defend his title against Miocic at Madison Square Garden, extending his UFC-record unbeaten streak to 20 fights.
