Moreno-Erceg to headline UFC Mexico City
A flyweight bout between former champion Brandon Moreno and Steve Erceg will headline UFC Mexico City on March 29 at Arena CDMX, the promotion announced Saturday.
Erceg was scheduled to fight Asu Almabayev on March 1 but was pulled from the matchup so he could take on Moreno. Almabayev is now slated to headline the Fight Night card against Manel Kape, whose original opponent, Brandon Royval, withdrew earlier this week.
Moreno, a former two-time champ from Tijuana, Mexico, is coming off a dominant victory over Amir Albazi in the UFC Edmonton main event last November. Moreno, 31, returned to the title conversation after suffering back-to-back losses to Royval and current champ Alexandre Pantoja.
Erceg is looking to snap a two-fight skid. The 29-year-old Australian lost to Pantoja by unanimous decision in a title bout last May and then suffered a knockout defeat to Kai Kara-France last August. Erceg began his UFC career with three straight wins.
