Report: Figueiredo-Sandhagen to headline UFC Des Moines
Top bantamweight contenders Deiveson Figueiredo and Cory Sandhagen will headline the UFC's Fight Night event in Des Moines, Iowa on May 3, a source told MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn.
The card will mark the promotion's first trip to Iowa since UFC 26 in 2000.
Figueiredo (24-4-1) dropped his last fight, a November bout with Petr Yan, by unanimous decision after winning his first three fights in the 135-pound division. The Brazilian fighter has notched victories over Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt, and Marlon Vera since moving up from flyweight.
Sandhagen (17-5) is also aiming to rebound from a defeat in his last outing. The 32-year-old lost via unanimous decision to Umar Nurmagomedov in August. "The Sandman" defeated Song Yadong, Vera, and Font before his three-fight win streak ended.
Sandhagen and Figueiredo are ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the promotion's bantamweight rankings.
The UFC's return to Iowa is also expected to feature a women's bantamweight bout between Miesha Tate and Yana Santos.
