Blanchfield-Barber will headline UFC's May 31 event
A pivotal women's flyweight bout between Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber will headline UFC Fight Night on May 31 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, the promotion announced Tuesday.
Blanchfield and Barber are ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the division, respectively.
Blanchfield is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas at UFC Edmonton in November. The 25-year-old is 7-1 in the Octagon. Her lone loss came against No. 1-ranked contender Manon Fiorot last March.
Barber will step into the cage for the first time since beating former title challenger Katlyn Cerminara at UFC 299 last March. She was scheduled to headline UFC Denver against Namajunas last July but was forced to withdraw because of health complications. Barber, 26, is riding a six-fight winning streak.
The women's flyweight title will be up for grabs just weeks before the Blanchfield-Barber bout. Champion Valentina Shevchenko is scheduled to defend her belt against Fiorot in the co-main event of UFC 315 on May 10 in Montreal.
