Retired MMA fighters Glover Teixeira and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will square off in the boxing ring later this year.

Teixeira and Rua, both former UFC light heavyweight champions, are scheduled to headline a Spaten Fight Night event Aug. 29 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the promotion announced Wednesday.

Teixeira retired from MMA in January 2023 after a lopsided defeat to Jamahal Hill, just two fights removed from his title win over Jan Blachowicz in October 2021. The 46-year-old Brazilian forfeited the belt to Jiri Prochazka in his first defense, losing by fifth-round submission in one of the greatest title bouts of all time.

Teixeira has remained active as a coach, guiding Alex Pereira to UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title victories.

Ironically, Rua hung up his gloves on the same night as Teixeira. His retirement came on the heels of three straight losses, including a first-round knockout to Ihor Potieria at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro.

Rua held the UFC light heavyweight title from 2010-11. The 44-year-old Brazilian was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2024.
