UFC light-heavyweight says PEDs should be allowed in MMA
UFC light-heavyweight fighter Anthony Johnson said during an interview on Monday that professional fighters should be allowed to take performance-enhancing drugs or should otherwise be paid in the millions like Major League Baseball (MLB) players.
During a call-in with Ricky Bones on SiriusXM's TapouT Radio on SportsZone 92, Johnson started by making his stance clear on PEDs in fighting, as transcribed by MMA Mania.
"If it's something that can absolutely help you, I don't see what the problem is. if you use it the right way and you just do what you are supposed to do, then it shouldn't be a problem. With as much training as we do, you have to take something. I think if you can do it, do it. I don't have nothing against it."
Johnson then equated MLB players who make millions to UFC fighters and wondered why they weren't making as much.
"You got guys like A-Rod and all them. They making millions per game. We making a couple thousand. They look at us and be like, ‘Man that's pocket change for me.'"
Near the end of the interview, Johnson made his pitch to the UFC.
"Hell, I'm probably about to say something stupid but I'm about to say, either pay us like them (MLB) and then we won't have to use it, or let us use it so we can get to that level. One or the other. Let us do something."
Johnson, 29, is on the heels of making his two-year return to the octagon when he faces Phil Davis at UFC 172 in two months,
