Shogun Rua robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua might want to take a little time off from the Brazilian big city life after what took place in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion was having dinner at a restaurant with his manager Eduardo Alonso and UFC welterweight Demian Maia before leaving for his hotel just outside of the city when he was forced to pull over by a man who had four men with rifles with him.

The gunmen stripped Rua of his clothes and took all his money and the car as well. After unsuccessfully attempting to get a ride from someone on a nearby highway, the 32-year-old was forced to walk a mile to the police station in the middle of the night.

Rua most recently fought in March and lost a Fight of the Night performance against Dan Henderson, who finished him in the third round via TKO. He underwent surgery for a broken nose and there is currently no timetable for his return.
