Dillashaw to keep training with both Team Alpha Male and Duane Ludwig

It was a touching moment.

T.J. Dillashaw realizing the dream of every fighter who has ever stepped foot in the Octagon, and sharing the sheer elation of victory with his coach for what could be the final time.

When it was announced that Team Alpha Male head coach Duane Ludwig would be leaving to start his own gym in Colorado, no one was sure what that would mean for Dillashaw, his star pupil.

"I'm going to continue training with team Alpha Male," Dillashaw told the media during the post-UFC 173 press conference (via Bloody Elbow). "But I'm gonna cross train with Duane. I'll go out and train with him when I'm out of camp, and will fly him in when I'm in camp. I'm going to work with Duane. He'll be in my corner. I plan on getting my blackbelt under the guy. He is a genius.

"I think it is making the best of both worlds. A new coach will come in and will watch me from there and I'll be able to get training from Duane. I've got to stay with Team Alpha Male. They've got me where I'm at. Best sparring partners you can get at my weight class."

One has to wonder how this decision will effect Dillashaw's relationship with his teammates and incoming head coach Martin Kampmann. Although at this point, the new champ, who is still evolving as a complete mixed martial artist, should stick with who brought him to the dance, and continue to train under both umbrellas.
