Report: Belfort pulled from UFC 175
After Chael Sonnen announced his retirement Wednesday night, Vitor Belfort was pulled from the UFC 175 lineup, according to mmajunkie.com:
The middleweight contender was originally slated to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on June 17 in an attempt to get a license to compete against Chael Sonnen at the July 5 event inside Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.
That license was no guarantee, though, due to the fact Belfort recently released the results of a failed random drug test his was administered by the NSAC in February. Those results showed spikes and plummets in testosterone limits, some of which were well outside the commission’s allowable range.
While Belfort’s ability to receive a license was up in the air, he was pulled from the card when news broke Sonnen failed a drug test of his own. The promotion was unable to find a suitable replacement for “The Phenom” for the UFC’s annual July 4th weekend event.
