Jon Jones: Daniel Cormier deserves title shot over Alexander Gustafsson
Although UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones is set to rematch Alexander Gustafsson sometime later this year, he still can't stop talking about stepping into the Octagon with former Olympian Daniel Cormier.
“Who’s more deserving? I would say Daniel Cormier has better accolades and the better record,” Jones told Fox Sports 1 (via MMAJunkie) when asked which challenger he thought was more deserving of vying for his title. “He’s undefeated, and he’s beaten former world champions before. He was a world champion in the Strikeforce organization, so I would say Cormier.
“But, I think the fans want to see me fight Alexander more, and I think that’s what’s most important.”
Waiting on a title shot may turn out to be beneficial for Cormier, as the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion is recovering from multiple knee injuries (a torn LCL, and a damaged ACL).
