Demetrious Johnson to defend title against Chris Cariaso at UFC 177
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is set to defend his title against Chris Cariaso at UFC 177.
Coming off an absolutely dominant unanimous decision win over Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174, "Mighty Mouse" has essentially cleared out the 125-pound division, successfully defending his title against John Dodson, John Moraga, Joseph Benavidez and Bagautinov.
Although Cariaso is riding a three-fight winning streak, his appointment with the champion exposes the lack of depth plaguing the flyweight division. Consecutive wins over Iliarde Santos, Danny Martinez and Louis Smolka shouldn't earn Cariaso a title shot, but an ACL injury suffered by No. 1 contender John Dodson forced the UFC to find Johnson a fresh opponent.
UFC 177 is set to feature two title fights, Johnson vs. Cariaso, and a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao.
