UFC 178: McGregor runs roughshod over Poirier
Dustin Poirier's quest to derail the Conor McGregor hype train failed miserably at UFC 178 on Saturday night.
McGregor sent Poirier careening to the mat with a glancing left hand behind the ear early in the first round and followed it up with a series of hammerfists until the fight was stopped.
Poirier immediately complained that the finishing strikes landed illegally to the back of his head, while McGregor paraded around the ring gesturing for a title shot.
Although the win will no doubt rocket McGregor up the featherweight ladder, he'll still have to wait in line while Chad Mendes gets his shot at kingpin Jose Aldo at UFC 179 next month.
