UFC broadcast ban in Germany deemed illegitimate
The UFC's expansion in Germany is imminent.
The Bavarian State Media Authority (BLM) banned the UFC from German television in 2010, calling the product an undesirable influence on the youth of Germany, and a violation of general morality.
On Oct. 9, a court ruled in favor of Zuffa, the parent company behind the UFC, stating any violation of morality or undesirable influence of youth done by the MMA promotion couldn't be determined.
UFC Chief Global Brand Office Garry Cook released the following statement:
This verdict is a milestone for the UFC and for the many UFC fans in Germany. The court has confirmed that it was illegitimate to ban our broadcast programs. We always had confidence in the German market and felt a responsibility to grow the sport and satisfy demand - this is why we fought against this ban. We will continue to work intensively to bring events, content and original programming to German viewers.
The UFC held it's last event in Germany at the 02 World arena in Berlin on May 31, 2014.
