Souza vs. Romero removed from UFC 184
Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza was forced to withdraw from his UFC 184 bout with Yoel Romero due to a bout of pneumonia, the UFC announced Thursday.
The fight will be moved to a later date.
Souza has laid waste to the UFC middleweight division since coming over from Strikeforce in 2013, polishing off Chris Camozzi, Yushin Okami, Francis Carmont and Gegard Mousasi, and will likely find himself in line for a title fight should he eventually get past Romero.
An Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, Romero has posted a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC, and earned his spot among the UFC's elite middleweights with a TKO victory over Tim Kennedy in September.
A lightweight clash between Tony Ferguson and Yancy Medeiros will be moved up to the main card to replace Souza-Romero.
