Henderson feels 'completely fine and healthy', plans to stay at middleweight
It didn't take long for Gegard Mousasi to dismantle Dan Henderson.
The stoic Dutchman sliced open Hendo's eyelid almost immediately, before staggering the former PRIDE champion with a right hand to the temple, and following it up with finishing punches along the cage.
Although Henderson was stunned, he didn't look completely out of it, and quickly went for a single leg just as referee Leon Roberts stepped in to stop the fight.
"I went in to pressure him. He clipped me a little bit. You guys saw what happened. I just felt like I didn’t really get in there to fight. I didn't get an opportunity," Henderson said, according to Sherdog.com's Tristen Critchfield. "It's unfortunate the way it happened. It just sucks."
Henderson's deteriorating chin is troubling. After going the first 15 years of his career without being finished by strikes, Henderson has been KO'd or TKO'd twice since 2013. According Fight Metric's Michael Carroll, Hendo has been knocked down 15 times in his career.
"Tonight I felt fine the whole time. It was just one of those things," he said. "I'm real careful in practice and train smart and I feel good. It was just an unfortunate thing tonight. I feel completely fine and healthy."
Although a growing legion of fans, fighters, and media members are pleading for Henderson to retire, the MMA legend plans on continuing his UFC career in the middleweight division.
"My body felt great. I felt fine. I just had an unfortunate thing happen and that's the way it goes," Henderson said. "The weight cut was fairly easy. I naturally weigh fairly light anyway. I was kind of tired of pushing around these big boys."
