- As young as it is, 2015 has not been a good year for Jon Jones. The former UFC light heavyweight champion, who tested positive for cocaine prior to his UFC 182 bout with Daniel Cormier, was stripped of his title and suspended indefinitely following his alleged involvement in a recent hit-and-run accident.
- With Jones out of the title picture, Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson will face off with the vacant championship on the line at UFC 187 in May.
- Cormier's sudden ascension into a title fight leaves streaking power wrestler Ryan Bader without an opponent for the UFC's return to New Orleans in June. With four consecutive victories, Bader could surprisingly find himself in the title picture at some point in 2015.
- A fringe top-five light heavyweight unlikely to challenge for the UFC crown, "Mr. Wonderful" Phil Davis jumped ship and signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA. With Bellator doing away with the tournament system, Davis should challenge for the 205-pound strap sooner rather than later.
