UFC Fight Night 66: Edgar outpoints Faber; Mousasi dominates Philippou

Frankie Edgar closed the UFC's maiden voyage to the Philippines with a unanimous decision victory over Urijah Faber at UFC Fight Night 66 on Saturday morning.

See below for the complete results:

Frankie Edgar def. Urijah Faber via unanimous decision

Volume was the name of the game for Frankie Edgar on Saturday, as he outpointed Urijah Faber over 25 minutes en route to a clear unanimous-decision victory. Edgar piled on the points with consistent combinations and multiple takedowns, while Faber was content to try and pick his shots with well-timed counters from the outside. Ultimately, Edgar outworked Faber for five rounds, though no one took much damage or had overly dominant moments.

Gegard Mousasi def. Costas Philippou via unanimous decision

Gegard Mousasi solidified his place among the upper echelon of the middleweight division with a one-sided drubbing of Costas Philippou. Mousasi kept Philippou at range on the feet with a stiff and consistent jab, and avoided any danger by taking Philippou down at will. Once on the floor, Mousasi easily dominated with ground-and-pound and heavy top-control while Philippou just worked to survive. Impressive performance from "The Dreamcatcher," who dominated from bell-to-bell.

Mark Munoz def. Luke Barnatt via unanimous decision

Mark Munoz closed out his MMA career with a spectacular unanimous decision victory over Luke Barnatt in front of a frenzied crowd. Munoz repeatedly cracked Barnatt in the face with big combinations, usually punctuated with a massive overhand right. Whenever the paced slowed, "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" fell back on his stout wrestling game, controlling Barnatt on the floor with heavy top-control and serious ground-and-pound.

It was a excellent way for Munoz to ride off into the sunset.

Neil Magny def. Hyun Gyu Lim via second-round TKO

After an exciting back-and-forth opening frame, Magny, clearly the fresher fighter entering the second round, immediately took Lim down, secured full mount, and started to unleash heavy hands while Lim moved to his stomach looking to avoid serious damage. After a stream of unanswered punches, referee Steve Perceval mercifully stepped in at 1:24 of the second stanza.

Phillipe Nover def. Yui Chul Nam via split-decision

Phillipe Nover made a triumphant return to the Octagon on Saturday, doing just enough to take a split-decision from Yui Chul Nam. It was a tale of two fights, as Nover used his wrestling to control most of the first half before a surging Nam came back to convincingly dominate the third round with an arm-triangle choke attempt and some heavy ground-and-pound. It stands as the third split-decision of the night.

Levan Makashvili def. Mark Eddiva via split decision

Levan Makashvili's superior wrestling was the difference Saturday, as he repeatedly took Mark Eddiva down over 15 minutes en route to a split-decision victory. Makashvili wasn't able to do much with his advantageous positions, though, which may have been why one of the judges inexplicably had the bout for Eddiva.

Jon Tuck def. Tae Hyun Bang via first-round rear-naked choke

After a bit of back-and-forth, Jon Tuck floored Tae Hyun Bang with a crushing right hand, immediately took Bang’s back and started unleashing a steady stream of big punches. From there it was academic, as Tuck, a jiu-jitsu wizard, sunk in a tight rear-naked choke, eliciting the tap at 3:56 of the opening frame.

Kajan Johnson def. Zhang Lipeng via unanimous decision

It wasn't the most stirring performance of his career, but Kajan Johnson proved to be the better fighter Saturday, controlling Zhang Lipeng with strong positional grappling for 15 minutes en route to a unanimous-decision victory. Johnson was able to grind Lipeng down on the floor and along the cage, but, aside from a few leg lock attempts and back-takes, never really had his opponent in real danger.

Li Jingliang def. Dhiego Lima via first-round TKO

Li Jingliang crumbled Dhiego Lima to the mat with a brutal left hook-right hand combination, and followed it up with some anvil-like right hands while Lima tried in vain to turtle up against the fence. Five or six brutal shots later, and the fight was mercifully waved off by referee Terry Hill.

Ning Guangyou def. Royston Wee via second-round TKO

With mere seconds left in the second round, Ning Guangyou sent Royston Wee careening to the mat with a flurry of punches to the head and body, and followed it up with some vicious elbows until referee Steve Perceval stepped in to put an end to the onslaught at 4:59 of the frame.

Jon Delos Reyes def. Roldan Sangcha-an via second-round rear-naked choke

Both men started the second stanza by biting down on their mouth guards and throwing bombs. Delos Reyes, now sporting a gigantic, blood-gushing gash above his right eye, floored Sangcha-an with a big right hand and followed it up with some heavy ground-and-pound. After quick cut check, Delos Reyes took over on the floor, eventually sinking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.

Yao Zhikui def. Nolan Ticman via split decision

Nolan Ticman and Yao Zhikui kicked off the fight pass prelims with 15 minutes of … well, pretty much nothing. Ticman spent much of the three round affair circling away while Zhikui doggedly tried to chase him down, though he wasn't able to do much damage (if any). Ticman likely deserved to get the win, but neither man did much to sway the judges. Just a horrible way to start the card.
