War Machine facing two counts of attempted murder
Former mixed martial artist Jonathan "War Machine" Koppenhaver is facing several charges in connection with an alleged attack on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack (real name Christy Mackinday) and her friend Corey Thomas, including two counts of attempted murder.
Koppenhaver's defense attorney, Brandon Sua, fruitlessly argued to have the two attempted murder charges thrown out Wednesday, claiming his client did not intend to kill Mackinday or Thomas during the alleged assault. District Judge Elissa Cadish refused to dismiss the charges under the belief that there was enough circumstantial evidence to show Koppenhaver's intent.
A contestant on the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Koppenhaver faces life in prison for the alleged attack in August that left Mackinday hospitalized.
Koppenhaver, who was denied a request to take a polygraph test, has pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges laid against him.
