Pendred, Benitez victorious on UFC 188 Fight Pass prelims

Cathal Pendred def. Augusto Montano via unanimous decision

Augusto Montano earned his nickname "Dodger" on Saturday night.

Montano had no interest in engaging Cathal Pendred for long stretches of their three-round bout, as Pendred's sheer pressure was basically enough to win him a unanimous decision.

Montano's unwillingness to fight was so blatant in the opening round that referee Herb Dean threatened to take a point away as a result of his inactivity.

Whenever Pendred was able to get his hands on Montano, he dominated with his strength, wrestling, and suffocating, blanket-like top control, grinding Montaro down without doing any real damage.

This. Fight. Sucked.

Gabriel Benitez def. Clay Collard via unanimous decision

Gabriel Benitez brought some Hal Johnson-level body break Saturday night, dominating Clay Collard on the feet en route to a lopsided unanimous decision in the evening's curtain-jerker.

Benitez tenderized Collard with rib-roasting, knee-buckling kicks, causing the besieged Cassius to crumble to the mat in pain multiple times over the 15-minute affair. Collard showed brief flashes of offense, hitting multiple takedowns, including a slick German suplex - but most of those brief flashes were answered quickly and violently by Benitez.
